Overview

Bunk'Art 2 is a former Ministry of Internal Affairs nuclear bunker converted into a museum focusing on the history of the Albanian Sigurimi, the state police and intelligence service. Located in the center of Tirana, the facility features 24 underground rooms preserved to reflect the paranoia and repression of the communist regime. The exhibits document the political persecution, surveillance techniques, and internment camps utilized under Enver Hoxha's rule. Visitors navigate a series of cramped, reinforced concrete corridors originally built between 1981 and 1986. The museum serves as a memorial to the victims of political violence in Albania. Many of the original furnishings, including telecommunications equipment and secret police files, remain on display. Unlike its larger counterpart, Bunk'Art 1, this site focuses specifically on the role of the security forces rather than the broader military history. The structure was opened to the public in 2016 following a conversion project aimed at addressing Albania's communist past.

Insider tips

Wear comfortable, flat shoes as the metal and concrete flooring can be slippery.

The temperature inside the bunker is significantly cooler than the city street level, so bring a light jacket.

Download an offline map, as the thick reinforced concrete walls block most cellular and GPS signals.
