Overview

The Resurrection of Christ Orthodox Cathedral is one of the largest Orthodox churches in the Balkans, inaugurated in 2012 to mark the 20th anniversary of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania. The complex features a 32-meter-high dome and a 46-meter-tall four-story bell tower integrated into the structural design. The cathedral is built on a plot once occupied by a cinema and a market, reclaimed by the church after the fall of the communist regime. The interior is characterized by a central iconostasis, murals, and a large chandelier specifically commissioned for the space. Adjacent to the cathedral are the offices of the Holy Synod, a chapel, a library, and a museum space. The complex is designed to symbolize the rebirth of religious life in Albania following decades of state-enforced atheism.
