Overview

The Palmiarnia in Wałbrzych is a historical greenhouse complex built between 1911 and 1913, serving as the only surviving structure of the former Hochberg family estate. It was commissioned by Prince Hans Heinrich XV for his wife, Princess Daisy of Pless, as a winter garden. The interior is distinctive for its walls constructed from volcanic tuff imported from Mount Etna in Sicily. It houses a diverse collection of over 250 species of plants, including exotic palm trees, cacti, bamboos, and various bonsai specimens. The facility utilizes a unique climate control system that maintains the temperature necessary for subtropical vegetation throughout the year. Visitors walk through interconnected glass pavilions featuring a café and paths surrounded by lush greenery. The site is situated within the grounds of the former Książ Castle complex, highlighting 20th-century aristocratic horticultural practices.
