Overview

Anrakuji Temple is the sixth station on the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage, historically linked to the Kobo Daishi saint. It is recognized for its unique 'Onsen-ji' status, as it houses a natural hot spring source within its temple grounds. The site features a distinctive two-story pagoda and a traditional garden setting. Pilgrims traditionally stay at the temple's shukubo (lodging facilities) to perform ablutions in the medicinal waters. The main hall houses an image of Yakushi Nyorai, the Buddha of healing, which aligns with the temple's association with hot spring therapy. It is located in Kamiita within the Itano District of Tokushima Prefecture. The temple grounds are maintained by the Shingon sect of Buddhism.
