Overview

Taoshan Falls Trail is a 4.3-kilometer forest path located within the Wuling Recreation Area of Shei-Pa National Park. The trail culminates at the 50-meter-tall Taoshan Waterfall, which originates from the Taoshan mountain peak. The entire path is paved with asphalt, making it accessible as a steady, moderate incline. Hikers pass through dense coniferous forests and cross the Yutao Bridge during the ascent. The altitude rises from approximately 1,900 to 2,250 meters, resulting in cooler temperatures year-round. This trail is recognized as a key attraction for birdwatchers and those seeking high-elevation botanical diversity.

Insider tips

Bring a light windbreaker or fleece, as temperatures drop significantly near the waterfall spray.

Start your hike early to avoid afternoon cloud cover that frequently rolls into the valley.

Carry at least one liter of water per person, as there are no filling stations along the trail.

What to avoid

Attempting the hike in flip-flops or open-toed shoes due to the long, paved incline; underestimating the altitude fatigue.

Good to know

May be temporarily closed during typhoon season or heavy rainfall events for trail safety.

Etiquette

Stay on marked paths to protect alpine vegetation; loud noises are prohibited to maintain the sanctuary for native bird species.
