Overview

Niji No Matsubara is a sprawling 5-kilometer-long coastal pine grove located in Karatsu, Saga Prefecture, Japan. It features approximately one million black pine trees planted along the sandy shore of Karatsu Bay, forming a natural barrier against wind and salt spray. The site is designated as one of Japan's Three Great Pine Groves and holds a Special Place of Scenic Beauty designation. A paved road runs directly through the forest, allowing visitors to drive or cycle beneath the dense canopy. The area transitions directly into the white sand of Niji-no-Matsubara Beach, which is popular for walking and seasonal ocean activities. The grove's name translates to 'Rainbow Pine Grove,' referring to the arc-shaped coastline it follows.
