The viewpoint is historically known as Chanticleer Point, named after the Chanticleer Inn that stood here until it burned down in 1930.
The site was renamed in 1959 to honor the Portland Women's Forum for their successful efforts to prevent commercial development in the Columbia River Gorge.
The elevation of the viewpoint is approximately 600 feet above the Columbia River.
It is one of the few locations where the entire curve of the Columbia River near Crown Point is visible in a single frame.
