Overview

Vista House is an octagonal observatory and memorial located on a high promontory overlooking the Columbia River Gorge. Constructed in 1917, the structure serves as a rest stop, museum, and information center for the Historic Columbia River Highway. The exterior is clad in grey sandstone, while the interior features white Alaskan marble floors and amber-colored leaded glass windows. It sits at an elevation of 733 feet, providing a panoramic view of the Columbia River. The site functions as a memorial to Oregon trail pioneers. It remains one of the most prominent examples of Comfort Station architecture in the Pacific Northwest. The interior rotunda is supported by a dome reinforced with copper.
