Overview

Saint Vincent's Church is the oldest religious building in San Sebastián, constructed in the early 16th century. It features a late-Gothic architectural style with a rectangular floor plan and three naves. The main altarpiece is a prominent example of Romanesque-Renaissance transition art, carved by Ambrosio de Bengoechea and Juan de Iriarte. Located in the heart of the Old Town, the church was built to replace an earlier 12th-century structure. The exterior facade contains a sculpture of the Pietà by Jorge Oteiza, added in the 20th century. Its construction materials consist primarily of ashlar stone, reflecting the fortified character common to churches of that era in the Basque Country. The building survived the major fire that devastated most of the city in 1813.
