Overview

The Cathedral of the Good Shepherd is the largest religious building in San Sebastián and serves as the seat of the Diocese of San Sebastián. Constructed between 1888 and 1897, the structure follows a Neo-Gothic architectural style inspired by German and French cathedrals. It features a prominent 75-meter spire that dominates the local skyline. The edifice is built primarily from local Igueldo sandstone extracted from the nearby Monte Igueldo quarries. The interior is characterized by a Latin cross floor plan with three naves and a substantial triforium. Stained glass windows designed by Juan Bautista Lázaro illuminate the sanctuary. The building was officially elevated to the status of a cathedral in 1953. It remains an active place of worship situated in the Eguía neighborhood area near the city center.
