Overview

The Ibukiyama Driveway is a 17-kilometer private toll road that ascends to the 1,260-meter summit of Mount Ibuki in Gifu Prefecture. It serves as the primary vehicular access point to the mountain, which is the highest peak in Shiga Prefecture and a prominent part of the Ibuki Range. The road features 17 distinct curves and rises over 1,000 meters in elevation from the base in Sekigahara. At the summit parking lot, visitors gain access to walking trails that traverse alpine flora and offer panoramic views of Lake Biwa and the Nobi Plain. The summit area remains significantly cooler than the surrounding lowlands, often maintaining a distinct mountain microclimate. It is part of the Ibukiyama-Ibi-Sekigahara Prefectural Nature Park.

Wear sturdy walking shoes to access the stone-paved trails beyond the parking lot.
