Ruta del Fardatxo is an official cycle-touring trail located within the Serra d'Irta Natural Park in Peñíscola. The route is named after the 'fardatxo,' the local Valencian term for the Ocellated Lizard (Timon lepidus), which is frequently spotted in the area. It spans approximately 13 kilometers in total length, connecting the coastal urban fringe with the interior Mediterranean scrubland of the park. The trail features a moderate difficulty level, making it suitable for both mountain biking and trekking enthusiasts. The terrain consists primarily of forest tracks and paths through limestone formations characteristic of the Serra d'Irta massif. As part of a protected natural area, the trail preserves native vegetation including wild rosemary, thyme, and fan palms. It provides elevated views over the Mediterranean coastline, distinct from the busier tourist beaches of Peñíscola. The path serves as a corridor for observing local Mediterranean fauna, particularly reptiles and birds of prey.
