Overview

The Holy Monastery of Saint Paraskevi is a 15th-century Orthodox hermitage perched on the edge of the Vikos Gorge in the Zagorohoria region. Founded in 1412, the structure consists of a small stone church and a balcony providing a direct view of the Voidomatis River basin 400 meters below. The site is accessible via a well-marked stone footpath that begins near the village of Monodendri. The monastery was historically used by local monks for shelter and contemplation away from the Ottoman-era villages. The interior preserves original 17th-century frescoes and traditional Byzantine ecclesiastical iconography. The architecture utilizes the locally sourced grey limestone typical of the Pindus mountain region. It remains one of the few surviving examples of cliff-side monastic architecture in the Epirus prefecture.
