Interesting facts
1

Laconella is separated from the larger Lacona beach by a narrow strip of land and a small rocky promontory.

2

The beach is part of a protected coastal area that includes the Capo di Stella peninsula, a popular site for coastal trekking.

3

The shallow, sandy floor makes the water temperature rise more quickly than at neighboring beaches during early summer.

4

Geologically, the beach sits at the base of a sedimentary sequence known for its distinct pale coloration compared to the darker, iron-rich sands found elsewhere on Elba.

Overview

Spiaggia Laconella is a secluded, south-facing beach on the southern coast of the island of Elba, situated between the larger Gulf of Lacona and the Gulf of Stella. The shoreline consists primarily of fine, light-colored sand mixed with small pebbles, characterized by very shallow waters that extend significantly from the shore. It is sheltered by the Capo di Stella promontory, which protects the bay from most northern winds. The beach is accessible via a short walking path starting from the main coastal road leading toward the peninsula. Unlike the neighboring, more commercialized Lacona beach, Laconella lacks large-scale organized beach clubs and infrastructure. The seabed features a mix of sand and rock formations, making it suitable for snorkeling near the edges of the bay. The area is located within the municipality of Capoliveri.

Insider tips

Bring water shoes to navigate the transition zones where sandy areas meet small, scattered rock patches.

Pack all necessary food and drinks, as there are no permanent shops or vendors on the beach itself.

Arrive early in the day to secure a spot, as the limited physical size of the beach leads to overcrowding by midday during peak season.

What to avoid

Do not attempt to drive directly to the shoreline, as parking is limited to designated areas near the main road access points.

Good to know

Accessible year-round, but essentially an unserviced beach with no lifeguards or seasonal rental facilities.

Etiquette

Practice 'leave no trace' principles as there are no public bins; respect the natural landscape and the quiet atmosphere.
