Overview

Spiaggia dell'Enfola is a unique shingle and pebble beach located on the narrow isthmus connecting the main mass of Elba to the Enfola promontory. The beach is split into two sides, with the north side typically calmer due to prevailing winds. The area was formerly the site of a significant tuna fishery, or 'tonnara', which operated until the mid-20th century. The abandoned factory buildings now house the headquarters of the Arcipelago Toscano National Park. The water is exceptionally clear, making it a popular site for snorkeling and scuba diving. A scenic trail network climbs the promontory, offering panoramic views of the Gulf of Portoferraio and the northern coast of Elba. The shoreline consists primarily of white and grey rounded pebbles, requiring footwear for comfort.

Insider tips

Wear water shoes, as the smooth pebbles are difficult to walk on barefoot.

Bring a snorkel and mask to explore the rocky points flanking the beach.

Carry sufficient water, as shade on the beach itself is limited.

What to avoid

Do not leave the beach to hike the promontory trails in the midday heat without adequate sun protection and water.

Etiquette

Respect the protected status of the National Park; do not remove stones or disturb local marine life.
