Overview

The Suramadu Bridge is the longest bridge in Indonesia, spanning 5.4 kilometers across the Madura Strait. It acts as the primary terrestrial link between the city of Surabaya on Java and the island of Madura. The structure is a cable-stayed bridge featuring a main span supported by two massive pylons. Construction of the bridge was a joint venture between Indonesian and Chinese state-owned companies. It was officially inaugurated in 2009 to accelerate the economic development of Madura Island. The bridge is a toll road facility managed by the Indonesian Ministry of Public Works and Housing. It consists of three parts: a causeway, an approach bridge, and a main bridge. The central span was specifically designed to provide a 35-meter vertical clearance for maritime traffic passing underneath.
