It functions as a primary sanctuary for the Balkan brown bear, with ongoing monitoring programs for the species. The terrain encompasses a high plateau with an average elevation of 1,000 to 1,200 meters, featuring karst limestone formations and deep gorges. The Perućac reservoir, formed by a hydroelectric dam on the Drina, serves as a major focal point for water-based activities within the park.
