The route follows the path of the old Ligne de Vincennes, which ceased operation in 1969.

The Coulée Verte René-Dumont is a 4.7-kilometer linear park built on the elevated path of the former Vincennes railway line. It connects the Bastille area to the Bois de Vincennes through the 12th arrondissement. The trail transitions from an elevated position above Avenue Daumesnil to ground level and eventually into subterranean sections. Much of the route features integrated landscaping, including rose gardens, trellises, and water features. It predates similar urban projects like New York City's High Line, having opened to the public in 1993. The park provides an alternative, car-free transit corridor for pedestrians across eastern Paris. It encompasses the Jardin de Reuilly, which spans the tracks via a dedicated pedestrian suspension bridge. The path is strictly reserved for pedestrians and prohibits cycling to ensure safety and comfort.
