Overview

Oprna Bay is a secluded pebble and sand beach located beneath steep cliffs on the southwestern coast of Krk Island. Access requires navigating a narrow, rugged, and unmarked hiking trail that descends from the main coastal road. The beach lacks natural shade, though it occasionally features a small seasonal pop-up shack for refreshments. The sea floor is characterized by a gradual transition from sand to gravel, creating clear turquoise water conditions. It remains one of the few undeveloped spots on the island, situated between the villages of Punat and Stara Baška. The surrounding terrain is composed of sparse Mediterranean scrub and exposed limestone karst.

Insider tips

Wear sturdy athletic shoes for the hike down; flip-flops are insufficient for the loose terrain.

Bring a portable sun umbrella or shade structure, as the cliffs do not provide cover during midday.

Pack sufficient water and food, as there are no permanent facilities on the beach.

What to avoid

Attempting the descent with heavy coolers or large inflatable rafts, as the narrow trail is physically demanding.

Etiquette

Carry out all trash; maintain a quiet environment as the cove has natural acoustics.
