Overview

Gjipe Beach is a secluded coastal destination at the mouth of the Gjipe Canyon on the Albanian Riviera. Access is limited to a 30-minute hiking trail from the parking area near Vuno or via boat from the nearby towns of Himarë or Dhërmi. The beach features a combination of white pebbles and sand bordered by high, vertical limestone cliffs. The canyon itself is approximately 800 meters long and offers hiking paths leading inland through dense vegetation. Marine caves are accessible along the shoreline, accessible primarily by swimming or sea kayak. The site lacks permanent road infrastructure and remains largely undeveloped compared to mainstream coastal resorts. Water depth increases relatively quickly from the shoreline. The area is part of a protected natural landscape.

Insider tips

Wear sturdy hiking shoes for the canyon descent, as the trail is steep and rocky.

Bring your own shade equipment, as there is limited natural cover on the beach outside of the canyon walls.

Carry out all trash, as there are no waste management services on-site.

What to avoid

Attempting the hike in flip-flops or during the peak heat of the afternoon; relying on finding available boat transport without a prior booking during high season.

Good to know

Boat services are seasonal and generally unavailable during the winter months.

Etiquette

Respect the 'leave no trace' principle; nudism is occasionally practiced in the more remote edges of the beach.
