Popular Exposed and windswept with expansive vistas
Mirador Este del Monte Calamorro, 29639 Benalmádena, Málaga, Spain
The limestone rock formations at the summit contain fossilized remains from the Jurassic period.
The mountain experiences a distinct microclimate, often remaining several degrees cooler than the coastal town of Benalmádena below.
The site serves as a frequent observation point for migratory raptors, including booted eagles and short-toed snake eagles.
The Mediterranean scrub vegetation at this altitude has adapted to high wind exposure and low soil depth.
On rare, exceptionally clear winter days, the Atlas Mountains of Morocco are visible across the Mediterranean Sea.
Mirador Este del Monte Calamorro is a high-altitude observation point located at the peak of the Calamorro mountain in the Sierra de Mijas range. It provides a 360-degree panoramic view of the Costa del Sol, extending from the Málaga coastline to the Rock of Gibraltar and the northern Moroccan coastline on clear days. The site is situated at an elevation of approximately 770 meters above sea level. It serves as a terminus for the Teleférico Benalmádena cable car system. The area features a network of marked hiking trails that traverse the limestone landscape of the summit. Signage at the viewpoint provides orientation for identifying surrounding coastal towns and geographical features. The summit environment is characterized by Mediterranean scrubland and rocky terrain. It remains an active hub for paragliding take-offs due to its specific thermal currents and drop-off points.
The eastern edge of the viewpoint platform providing a clear sightline over the entire Benalmádena coastline.
Bring a windbreaker or light jacket, as the summit is significantly windier and cooler than the coast.
Wear closed-toe shoes with good grip if you intend to explore the unpaved walking trails around the summit.
Carry personal hydration, as facilities at the peak are limited to those associated with the cable car station.
Do not attempt to hike the mountain paths in flip-flops or open-toed sandals due to loose, sharp limestone rocks.
Operations are highly dependent on wind speeds; the cable car service may be suspended during high-wind events regardless of the season.
Stay within marked paths to protect the fragile mountain ecosystem and avoid dangerous cliff edges.
Plan for about 1-2 hours to see the highlights.
The best time to visit is Late afternoon on a clear day for sunset views and reduced coastal haze..
