Veles e Vents, Edificio Veles e Vents La Marina de València, Poblats Marítims, 46024 València, Valencia, Spain
The building was awarded the prestigious RIBA European Award in 2007 for its minimalist structural design.
The name 'Veles e Vents' translates to 'Sails and Winds' and is taken from a poem by the 15th-century Valencian poet Ausiàs March.
The structure is composed of 10,000 square meters of concrete, painted a stark white to reflect the intense Mediterranean sunlight.
Each of the four levels is shifted slightly in orientation to provide different sightlines across the harbor and sea.
The building was designed to be modular, allowing for temporary partitions to rearrange spaces based on event requirements.
Veles e Vents is a multi-level architectural landmark located at the entrance of the La Marina de València, originally constructed as the VIP hospitality hub for the 2007 America's Cup. The structure features four cantilevered concrete platforms that appear to float, designed by architects David Chipperfield and Fermín Vázquez. The building functions as a cultural and culinary space, housing restaurants, event venues, and art exhibition areas. Its open terraces provide panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea and the working boat docks. The design emphasizes horizontal lines and transparency to integrate the interior spaces with the port environment. It currently serves as a central hub for the Marina’s recreational and public activities.
