Fuente de la Plaza del Ayuntamiento, Ciutat Vella, 46002 València, Valencia, Spain
The square was historically known as Bajada de San Francisco before its current designation as Plaza del Ayuntamiento.
The fountain serves as the geographic hub for the city's official 'kilometer zero' markers used for regional surveying.
During the annual Fallas festival in March, the area around the fountain is densely packed for daily pyrotechnic displays.
The current pedestrian-friendly configuration of the fountain's plaza was finalized in 2020 to remove bus traffic from the immediate vicinity.
The Fuente de la Plaza del Ayuntamiento is the central focal point of Valencia’s primary administrative square, situated in front of the City Hall. The current fountain layout is part of a pedestrianized urban plan that redesigned the square to prioritize public space over vehicle traffic. The water feature incorporates dynamic jets and lighting systems that are particularly prominent during evening hours. It serves as a cooling element in the heart of the Ciutat Vella district. The square surrounding the fountain is a significant site for local cultural traditions, including the Mascletà fireworks during the Fallas festival. The fountain is flanked by the Neoclassical City Hall building and the modernist Postal Palace. It provides a visual axis for the geometric layout of the square’s flower stalls.
