Overview

Nui Bay is a secluded, semi-circular cove located on the southwestern coastline of Koh Lanta Yai, Krabi. The beach is characterized by its dramatic limestone cliffs and dense tropical jungle backdrop. Access to the beach requires navigating a steep, unpaved path from the main coastal road. The seafloor features a mix of sand and scattered rock formations, making it a recognized spot for snorkeling during calm sea conditions. Due to its orientation, the bay is shielded from strong winds for much of the dry season. It lacks permanent commercial infrastructure, maintaining a rugged and undeveloped landscape compared to the island's major beaches. The bay is frequently used by small long-tail boats as a stopover during island-hopping excursions.

Insider tips

Wear sturdy footwear for the descent to the beach, as the path can be slippery and loose.

Bring your own snorkel gear and drinking water, as there are no rental shops or stalls on the beach.

Check the tide charts before visiting, as high tide significantly reduces the available sand area.

What to avoid

Attempting to access the beach via scooter during or immediately after rainfall, as the access trail becomes extremely muddy and dangerous.

Good to know

The bay is effectively inaccessible for swimming or boat mooring during the peak monsoon season due to rough sea conditions.
