The park was originally created in the late 1500s by a wealthy Lviv merchant named Jan Scholtz-Wolfowicz as a private garden.
It is officially recognized as the oldest municipal park in Ukraine.
The site was once known as the 'Jesuit Garden' before being transferred to the city municipality in the 18th century.
The main path leads directly to the Lviv University building, which was formerly the building of the Galician Diet.
The park contains over 20 species of trees, including rare examples of ancient beeches and oaks.
Ivan Franko Park is the oldest public park in Lviv and serves as a central green space located directly in front of the Ivan Franko National University.
