Overview

Goethe's Lookout Tower is a historic brick observation structure built in 1889, designed in the style of a medieval castle. Located on the Hůrka hill at an elevation of 638 meters, it offers panoramic views of the Karlovy Vary valley and surrounding Krušné hory mountains. The tower was designed by architects Ferdinand Fellner and Hermann Helmer. It was originally named after Empress Elisabeth of Austria and later renamed in honor of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, who visited the site during his stays in the spa town. The structure features 165 stone steps leading to the observation gallery. The site serves as a trail junction for several forest hiking paths. Restoration work in the early 2020s preserved its historic masonry and distinct Neo-Gothic architectural elements.
