Overview

Cape Zanpa Park is located on the westernmost point of Yomitan Village on the main island of Okinawa. The park is anchored by the 31-meter-tall Zanpa Lighthouse, which remains active and allows visitors to climb to the observation deck. The site features jagged limestone cliffs that drop sharply into the East China Sea. A large-scale outdoor playground designed for children is situated near the main parking area. The surrounding parkland spans a flat coastal plateau characterized by low-lying scrub vegetation and coral rock formations. Walking paths extend along the cliff edges, providing unobstructed views of the surrounding coastline. During clear weather, the islands of Kerama and Aguni are visible on the horizon. The park is a recognized spot for viewing the sunset over the ocean.

Insider tips

Wear sturdy, closed-toe walking shoes due to the uneven and sharp coral-limestone terrain.

Bring sun protection, as the park is a wide-open space with very limited natural shade.

Visit during low tide to explore the rock pools and marine life visible near the base of the cliffs.

What to avoid

Do not attempt to walk along the cliff edge during high winds or heavy rain.

Etiquette

Stay on marked paths when near the cliffs, as the limestone edges can be unstable and dangerous.
