Overview

Dr. B. R. Ambedkar's Park, officially the Ambedkar Memorial Park, is a massive public space in Lucknow built entirely from red sandstone brought from Rajasthan. The park spans approximately 107 acres and is dedicated to social reformers including Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, Jyotirao Phule, and Kanshi Ram. Its architectural design is dominated by repetitive motifs, specifically a series of 144 massive elephant statues carved from sandstone lining the pathways. A central structure known as the Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Memorial features a large chamber housing statues of the reformers. The site is illuminated extensively by floodlights at night, turning the sandstone surfaces a distinct deep orange color. It was commissioned by the Government of Uttar Pradesh and completed in 2008 as a memorial site. The grounds include expansive paved plazas, manicured lawns, and several galleries.
