Overview

Castelo de São Jorge is a fortified Moorish citadel occupying the highest hill in Lisbon, offering panoramic views of the city and the Tagus Estuary. It served as a royal residence from the 12th century until the early 16th century, when the monarch moved to the Ribeira Palace.
