The dam is the highest earth-fill embankment dam in Poland.
The construction required the relocation of the village of Maniowy to a new site to accommodate the reservoir's basin.
The power plant utilizes two Kaplan turbines and two pump-turbines, allowing for pumped-storage operations.
The creation of the reservoir involved the flooding of a significant portion of the Dunajec River gorge, permanently altering the local microclimate and landscape.
The dam contains approximately 2.5 million cubic meters of earth and rock fill material.
The reservoir serves as a biological reserve and habitat for various waterfowl species migrating through the Pieniny region.
The Czorsztyn Dam is a 56-meter-high earth-fill embankment dam located in Niedzica that separates the Czorsztyn Reservoir from the smaller Sromowce Reservoir. The structure functions as a hydroelectric power plant with an installed capacity of 92 MW. It serves as a critical flood control measure for the Dunajec River valley. The site offers panoramic views of the Pieniny Mountains and the Pieniny National Park. Two historic castles, Niedzica Castle and the ruins of Czorsztyn Castle, face each other from opposite shores of the reservoir. Visitors can access the dam crest for walking and cycling paths. Boat cruises are available, connecting the two castle sites across the water. The project was completed in 1997 after over 20 years of construction. The reservoir area is a hub for water-based recreational activities including kayaking and sailing.

Walk across the full length of the dam to experience the differing water levels between the two reservoirs.
Bring polarized sunglasses to reduce glare when observing the reservoir from the dam's top.
Combine your visit with a boat trip to access both the medieval Niedzica and Czorsztyn castles.
Do not attempt to swim in the reservoir outside of designated bathing areas, as water temperatures can be dangerously low.
The power plant viewing area may have restricted access during maintenance periods; the dam crest remains accessible for pedestrians throughout the year.
Maintain caution near the water's edge and stay within marked pedestrian zones on the dam crest.
