Overview

Sanmagiyet-gil is a 2.2-kilometer-long nature trail constructed along the banks of the Dalcheon River in Goesan-gun. The trail was reclaimed from a submerged mountain path that was created during the construction of the Goesan Dam in 1957. It connects the Oe-sanmagi village to the Goesan Dam, providing views of the surrounding mountainous landscape. The path is built primarily on wooden decking, making it accessible for pedestrians to walk directly above the riverbanks. It serves as a core segment of the wider Sanmagi-iyeot-gil trekking course, which extends significantly further than the main section. The trail features multiple rest areas, observation decks, and historical markers related to the local village history.

Insider tips

Wear sturdy walking shoes as the wooden deck can be slippery when wet.

Bring sun protection, as portions of the trail lack canopy cover.

Check the weather forecast, as strong winds or heavy rain can temporarily restrict access to the river-side paths.

What to avoid

Attempting to hike off-trail into the steeper, unmaintained forest sections, which are prone to rockfall.

Etiquette

Stay on the designated wooden decking to protect local vegetation; quiet behavior is encouraged to observe wildlife.
