Overview

St. Michael's Vydubytsky Men's Monastery is a historic Orthodox complex founded by Vsevolod Yaroslavych in the 1070s. The site is situated on a hillside overlooking the Dnieper River in the Pecherskyi District. It serves as a rare survivor of original Kyivan Rus' architecture, specifically the 11th-century St. Michael's Cathedral. The complex includes the baroque St. George's Cathedral, commissioned by Hetman Ivan Mazepa and completed in 1701. The monastery grounds feature an 18th-century refectory church and a bell tower. Historically, it functioned as the family monastery of the Monomakh dynasty. The grounds are part of the National Botanical Garden surroundings. It currently functions as an active monastery under the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
