Overview

Aquatika is the only freshwater aquarium in Croatia, specifically dedicated to the flora and fauna of the country's rivers and lakes. The facility is designed to mimic the lifecycle of a typical karst river, guiding visitors from the mountain spring level down to the marshlands. It houses over 100 species of fish, including 40 endemic species, within a series of tanks that represent diverse aquatic ecosystems. The architecture features an earth-covered roof integrated into the landscape of the Korana river bank, resembling a traditional mound. The exhibition is divided into sections illustrating different water environments, such as caves, cascades, and slow-moving riverbeds. It serves as a biological research center and an educational hub for conservation of local species. The largest tank contains deep water representations and requires a multi-level viewing structure for visitors. Freshwater stingrays and large predatory fish like the wels catfish are notable residents. It is located in the town of Karlovac, positioned at the confluence of four rivers.
