Overview

The Pont Penjant d'Amposta is a historic suspension bridge crossing the Ebro River, inaugurated in 1921. It was designed by the engineer José Eugenio Ribera and served as a crucial connection for the region's agricultural transport. The structure spans 130 meters and was the first suspension bridge of its kind built in Spain using reinforced concrete towers. It remained the only bridge crossing the Ebro in the town until the 1970s. The bridge features two tall, metallic-framed concrete towers supporting the suspension cables. It serves as a symbolic gateway between the Montsià region and the Ebro Delta. The design was heavily influenced by the style of French engineer Ferdinand Arnodin. It is currently a designated Site of Cultural Interest within the province of Tarragona.
