Overview

The Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Angels in Vinnytsia is a historic Roman Catholic church complex originally constructed in the 18th century as part of a Capuchin monastery. The site served as a vital center for education and spiritual life in the region during the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth era. Following decades of secular use during the Soviet period, including service as an atheist museum and radio station, the building was returned to the Roman Catholic Church in the early 1990s. The architecture features a distinctive combination of early Baroque elements and massive defensive-style walls indicative of the period's monastic fortifications. It currently operates under the pastoral care of the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin. The interior retains historic vaulted ceilings and an active liturgical space that functions as the deanery for the local Catholic community. Visitors can observe the preserved cellar spaces that historically housed monastery provisions and served as refuges. It remains one of the few examples of monastic architectural heritage surviving in the city center.
