Overview

Talladega National Forest spans over 392,000 acres of the Appalachian Mountains in east-central Alabama. The forest is divided into two distinct districts: the Talladega District, which features the Cheaha Wilderness, and the Shoal Creek District. The Pinhoti Trail, a 335-mile long-distance trail, runs through the forest and connects to the Appalachian Trail system. Visitors utilize the area for dispersed camping, developed campgrounds, and multi-use trail systems for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. The terrain transitions from rolling hills to high-elevation ridgelines reaching over 2,400 feet. The forest manages diverse ecosystems including longleaf pine forests, hardwood hollows, and cascading streams. It serves as a hub for outdoor recreation and remains open year-round for public access.
