Overview

Schloss Bothmer is the largest baroque palace complex in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, constructed between 1726 and 1732. Designed by architect Johann Friedrich Künnecke, it reflects the Anglo-Dutch style, characterized by a strictly symmetrical layout consisting of the main building and thirteen separate pavilions. The palace was commissioned by Hans Caspar von Bothmer, a statesman who served as an envoy for the Electorate of Hanover in London. The site features an extensive landscaped park and a long lime-tree avenue leading to the main entrance. Following years of decline, the estate underwent comprehensive restoration between 2008 and 2015. It currently serves as a museum and event venue managed by the state's cultural foundation. The interior houses an exhibition dedicated to the history of the Bothmer family and their influence in the British and German courts.
