Overview

Bellevue Beach is a historic 700-meter-long public bathing beach located on the Øresund coast in Klampenborg, Denmark. Designed by modernist architect Arne Jacobsen in 1932, the site features iconic blue-and-white striped lifeguard towers and changing cabins. The beach is part of a larger seaside complex that includes the Bellevue Theatre and a residential housing estate also designed by Jacobsen. The sand is artificial, imported to create a recreational area for Copenhagen residents. Water quality is monitored regularly, and the facility includes integrated geometric concrete structures intended to mimic maritime architecture. The beach sits adjacent to a sprawling nature park, Dyrehaven, providing a transition from coastline to forest. It remains one of the most significant examples of Danish functionalist landscape design.
