The park's design is heavily influenced by the visual style and themes of Romare Bearden, a Charlotte-born artist known for his complex collages.
It is built on a site that was once a historic location for black businesses and residences in Charlotte prior to urban renewal projects.
The park features two permanent 'Rooms'—The Formal Event Lawn and the Village Garden—that provide distinct spatial experiences.
The signature misting features were specifically engineered to provide cooling relief during Charlotte’s humid summer months.
It was designed by the landscape architecture firm Nelson Byrd Woltz.
The park's location offers a rare, unobstructed view of the Uptown Charlotte skyline and the adjacent professional baseball stadium.
Several permanent art installations are integrated into the park's structural concrete and landscaping.
Romare Bearden Park is a 5.4-acre urban green space located in the heart of Uptown Charlotte, designed as a tribute to the artist Romare Bearden. The park features two gardens, formal event lawns, and a series of iconic misting fountains that mirror the city skyline. It serves as a central hub for free fitness programs, including yoga and bootcamp classes, as well as seasonal entertainment and community performances. The design draws inspiration from Bearden’s artwork, incorporating mosaic-like patterns and colors reflecting his modernist style. It is situated directly adjacent to Truist Field, allowing for clear views of baseball games from the upper lawn areas. Visitors have access to designated dining tables, open plazas, and paved walking paths throughout the site.

Bring a blanket or lawn chair if you plan to attend a scheduled evening concert or movie screening.
Check the official park calendar online to see if any fitness classes are taking place during your visit.
Visit during a minor league baseball game if you want to enjoy the atmosphere of the stadium without necessarily buying a ticket.
Do not attempt to swim or wade in the water features, as they are decorative and intended for misting only.
Shirts and shoes are required for all visitors; pets must remain on a leash at all times.
