Overview

The Beethoven-Denkmal is a large bronze statue located on Münsterplatz in Bonn, commemorating Ludwig van Beethoven. It was designed by the sculptor Ernst Hähnel and cast by Jakob Daniel Burgschmiet. Unveiled on August 12, 1845, the inauguration ceremony was attended by Queen Victoria and King Frederick William IV of Prussia. The statue stands on a pedestal decorated with four relief panels depicting the various facets of Beethoven's musical genius. It remains one of the oldest monuments dedicated to the composer in his birthplace. The site serves as the central focal point of the city's pedestrianized square. It is situated directly in front of the historic Bonn Post Office.
