Overview

The Cathedral of Christ the Savior is the main Orthodox church in Kaliningrad, located prominently on Victory Square. Completed in 2006, the structure follows the Vladimir-Suzdal architectural tradition with five golden domes and white facades. It serves as the center of the Kaliningrad Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church. The cathedral houses a unique lower church dedicated to the memory of soldiers who perished in the wars of the 20th century. The building stands on the site of a former German department store that was destroyed during World War II. The structure is 73 meters high and can accommodate up to 3,000 worshippers at once. Its design features a gold-leaf exterior on the domes and an ornate iconostasis.
