Overview

Buyongdae Observatory is a limestone cliff towering 64 meters above the Nakdong River, offering a panoramic view of the Hahoe Folk Village. The name 'Buyongdae' originates from the lotus flower, as the village below is said to resemble a lotus floating on water. It provides a vantage point to observe the traditional tile and thatched-roof houses within the river's meander. The site serves as the starting point for the traditional Seonyujulbul Nori, a local firework festival conducted on water. Visitors reach the summit via a short hiking trail that ascends from the riverside base. The cliff face consists of exposed sedimentary rock formations. It is a designated landmark within the Andong UNESCO World Heritage region.
