Helderberg Nature Reserve sits on the lower slopes of the Helderberg Mountain in Somerset West, overlooking the False Bay coastline. The reserve encompasses 402 hectares of indigenous fynbos vegetation and woodland. A network of hiking trails ranges from gentle, wheelchair-accessible paths near the visitor center to strenuous routes ascending the mountain peaks. The area serves as a sanctuary for diverse wildlife, including grey rhebok, steenbok, and over 170 recorded bird species. A dedicated arboretum showcases indigenous tree species, some of which are rare. The reserve is managed by the Friends of the Helderberg Nature Reserve in partnership with the City of Cape Town. Visitors can utilize designated picnic sites located within the manicured lawn sections. The geography provides clear sightlines across the Cape Peninsula and the Atlantic Ocean.
