Overview

Rainbow by Marcus Canning is a large-scale public art installation consisting of a 9-meter tall, 50-tonne arch constructed from nine repurposed shipping containers. Situated at the intersection of Canning Highway and Stirling Highway, the sculpture serves as a gateway landmark for the city of Fremantle. Created by artist Marcus Canning and unveiled in 2017, the work is composed of recycled steel containers painted in vibrant colors, referencing the rainbow lorikeet and the maritime industrial history of the port. The structure is hollow, allowing visitors to walk through the archway and view the surrounding landscape from within. Its orientation creates a visual corridor for motorists entering and exiting the Fremantle town center.
