Overview

Tokatlı Canyon is a deep, narrow gorge carved by the Tokatlı Creek in the Safranbolu district of Karabük, Türkiye. The site features a 80-meter-high crystal glass terrace that extends over the canyon, providing views of the valley floor and the surrounding forest vegetation. A walking path connects the canyon entrance to the historic Yoruk Village, spanning a distance of approximately 9 kilometers. The area includes wooden viewing platforms, a waterfall, and basic cafe facilities located near the trailhead. The canyon is formed by limestone karst topography, characterized by steep rock walls and dense seasonal foliage. It serves as a natural corridor connecting the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Safranbolu town to local rural settlements.

Insider tips

Wear footwear with high-traction soles as the trail terrain consists of loose gravel, dirt, and uneven limestone.

Bring a light windbreaker even in summer, as the temperature inside the canyon floor is consistently lower than at the rim.

If planning to walk the full trail to Yoruk Village, ensure you have sufficient water as there are no facilities on the trail itself.

What to avoid

Do not attempt the full canyon hike during or immediately after heavy rainfall, as the trails become slippery and prone to mud.

Good to know

The site remains open throughout the year, but the trail to Yoruk Village may be inaccessible following severe winter snowfall.

Etiquette

Avoid leaning or placing heavy items on the glass panels of the observation deck; keep noise levels low to respect local wildlife.
