Overview

The Takada Castle Three-storey Turret is a reconstructed wooden structure located within Takada Park in Joetsu, Niigata. Originally built in 1614 by Matsudaira Tadateru, the son of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the present turret was reconstructed in 1993 using historical architectural techniques. The site serves as a museum housing historical artifacts related to the castle's history and the Matsudaira clan. The grounds are widely recognized for their inclusion in the 'Three Great Night Views of Sakura' in Japan. Over 4,000 cherry trees populate the park, surrounding the castle moat. The turret offers panoramic views of the park's landscaped gardens and the surrounding cityscape from its observation floor. The site remains a primary venue for the annual Takada Castle Cherry Blossom Festival held each spring.
