Overview

Manjushri Kadampa Meditation Centre is the mother center of the New Kadampa Tradition, housed within the historic Conishead Priory, a Gothic Revival mansion. The site contains a World Peace Temple, which features a hand-painted statue of Buddha Shakyamuni. The grounds span 70 acres of woodland and gardens overlooking the Morecambe Bay estuary. The center serves as an international educational hub for Kadampa Buddhism, offering courses and silent retreats. Conishead Priory itself was originally constructed in the 19th century on the site of a 12th-century Augustinian priory. It is the international headquarters for the NKT-IKBU global network.

What to avoid

Do not attempt to walk across the Morecambe Bay sands without a professional guide due to dangerous tides and shifting quicksands.
