Overview

The Ancient Shri Karighatta Srinivasa Temple is situated atop Karighatta Hill, approximately 2,697 feet above sea level, overlooking the confluence of the Kaveri and Lokapavani rivers. Dedicated to Lord Srinivasa, a form of Vishnu, the temple is constructed primarily in the Dravidian architectural style. The site is accessible via a flight of over 450 stone steps cut into the hillside, or a winding vehicular road. It serves as a significant pilgrimage site, particularly during the Vaikuntha Ekadashi festival. The surrounding hill is known for its dry deciduous forest and presence of diverse flora, including native soapnut and tamarind trees. The inner sanctum houses an idol believed by devotees to have been installed by Sage Bhrigu. The temple premises offer a panoramic view of the Srirangapatna island and the surrounding agricultural plains.
