Overview

The Kleinstes Haus is a historic timber-framed dwelling constructed in 1792 that serves as a museum highlighting compact urban living in Wernigerode. Measuring only 2.95 meters in width and 4.20 meters in height to the eaves, it is one of the smallest residential buildings in Germany. The structure was originally built into a small gap between two existing houses. It served as a residence for various families until 1976. The interior displays authentic period furnishings and tools used by residents throughout its 184-year history as a home. The building features an exceptionally steep staircase leading to the attic area. It is officially recognized as a protected architectural monument. The museum is located in the old town district of Wernigerode.
