The Puente de la Constitución de 1812, also known as La Pepa, is a cable-stayed bridge spanning the Bay of Cádiz, connecting the city of Cádiz with Puerto Real on the Spanish mainland. It is one of the tallest bridges in the world, featuring a central pylon height of 185 meters. The bridge spans 3,092 meters in total, with a main span of 540 meters designed to allow large cruise ships and naval vessels to enter the bay. It incorporates a unique 'demountable' section that can be raised if even greater clearance is required in the future. The structure carries four lanes of traffic and two tracks for the future tram-train system. Completed in 2015, it was named to commemorate the bicentenary of the Spanish Constitution of 1812. The engineering design uses a hybrid system combining cable-stayed and semi-continuous spans to withstand high wind speeds common to the region.
